Following Warner Bros. announcement of their DC cinematic plan, rumors started floating around about Shazam's role in the same. Most seam to imply that Shazam would live in his own separate universe, however in a recent editorial titled "Moments That Mattered" DC have revealed that all of the announced films will inhabit the same universe.
"Yes, there were rumors of some sort of film slate, mentions that Warner Bros. had “big plans” for DC Entertainment and occasional informal announcements (like the news that New Line had a Shazam movie in development). But for fans who were hoping to see a DC Cinematic Universe similar to what they’ve seen from other publishers, one that included super heroes other than Superman or Batman, there didn’t seem to be a lot to talk about.
If we complement this information with the statement New Line (studio behind the film) President Toby Emmerich made back in September about the project I extrapolate that Shazam might be the Guardians of the Galaxy of the DCCU, meaning it will connected to the rest of the films but not in a direct way.
